Read Our Favorite Review: An Unforgettable Montenegrin Adventure

"The news that Canadians can enter Montenegro despite the vicious virus found my son and me in Trebinje, Republic of Srpska, and without a second thought, we found ourselves on the road to Niksic, Montenegro. This was supposed to be just a short stop on our way to the Waterfall Rafting Center, providing lodging and white-water rafting on the Tara River.

Our spontaneous journey took an unexpected turn when we spotted a sign for an ancient bridge dating back to the 3rd Century. We couldn't resist stopping to walk on this piece of history, still serving its original purpose after almost 2000 years.

Night in Niksic

This delay led us to spend a night in Niksic, where we stayed at Central Apartments, a cozy place just five minutes from the city center. The host, Darko, was exceptionally friendly and the apartment was impeccably clean.

Scenic Drive to Pluzine

The next morning, after enjoying some delicious local pastries, we drove towards Pluzine, a picturesque town by Piva Lake. We visited the Pivski Manastir, a Serbian Orthodox Monastery, meticulously relocated piece by piece almost 40 years ago due to the creation of the lake.

Arrival at Waterfall Rafting Center

Following a narrow, winding road, we arrived at the Waterfall Rafting Center. Welcomed with homemade plum brandy, we were quickly settled into our cozy and clean chalet, Piva. The center's private, forested setting was incredibly serene, and the playful kittens added a charming touch.

Rafting on the Tara River

After a hearty breakfast, we geared up for rafting on the Tara River, known as the "Tear of Europe" for its pristine waters. The canyon, the second deepest in the world, provided a breathtaking backdrop for our adventure. Our guide was knowledgeable and made us feel safe throughout the journey.

Delicious Meals and New Friends

Post-rafting, we enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Chef Dzemo. My son tried a unique local veal dish cooked under a metal dome with burning firewood, resulting in an unforgettable flavor. The evening was spent meeting new friends and sharing stories around the campfire.

Canyoning in Nevidio Canyon

Inspired by another guest's story, we decided to extend our stay and go canyoning in Nevidio Canyon. The staff at the center quickly arranged everything for us. The canyoning adventure was thrilling and challenging, with narrow spots, cliff jumps, and slides making it an unforgettable experience.

Final Night in Zabljak

Our trip concluded with a night in Zabljak, where we visited the stunning Black Lake. The hospitality of our hosts and the incredible natural beauty of Montenegro made this an unforgettable adventure.

Next, we're heading to the Montenegrin seacoast, but those stories are for another time!"
